Groom skips wedding in Awantipora, arrested after bride files complaint, says police

The wedding reception was called off at the last moment by the groom despite performing side years ago.

Awantipora: Jammu and Kashmir Police have registered a case against a groom from Awantipora for allegedly evading the wedding day reception.

In a statement, police said that on Tuesday, police station Awantipora received a written complaint from a complainant (name withheld) against one Fayaz Ahmad Dar and his father Mohammad Shaban Dar (son of Ghulam Qadir Dar), residents of Kandizal Awantipora stating therein that her wedding reception was scheduled on September 16 with Fayaz Ahmad Dar after performing the Nikah earlier and all the arrangements were put in place for the arrival of the groom along with the wedding procession.

The said wedding reception was called off at the last moment by the groom side on the pretext that the groom has run away and has refused to attend the reception thereby denying the Nikah which has been performed earlier, the statement said.

“Upon this, Police Awantipora took the cognizance of the matter by registering FIR No 182/2023 U/S 420, 498(A) IPC in Police Station Awantipora against the groom and his father and both have been arrested,” reads the statement.
