New Delhi: The Indian Air Force (IAF) on Monday said that it has responded to reports of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) near Imphal airport on Sunday, initiating the deployment of Rafale fighter aircraft for investigation.

The UFO sighting, occurring around 2:30 pm, caused disruptions to several commercial flights. In response to the information, a Rafale fighter aircraft from a nearby airbase was promptly scrambled to search for the UFO, according to defense sources cited by ANI.

Equipped with advanced sensors, the aircraft conducted low-level flights over the suspected area in an attempt to locate the UFO.

However, the search proved unsuccessful as the first aircraft returned without findings. Subsequently, another Rafale fighter was dispatched for further investigation, but the UFO was no longer present in the vicinity.

Despite the absence of physical evidence, videos capturing the UFO prompted concerned agencies to delve deeper into the details surrounding the mysterious sighting.

The Eastern Command of the Indian Air Force, headquartered in Shillong, activated its Air Defence response mechanism after the Imphal airport was cleared for flying. Specific details regarding the steps taken were not disclosed.

Rafale fighters, stationed at the Hashimara air base in West Bengal, play a pivotal role in patrolling various air bases along the eastern sector along the China border.

Notably, these fighters recently participated in the expansive Air Force exercise “Poorvi Akash” along the China border, showcasing the integration of major force assets alongside Army troops. The incident highlights the ongoing challenges and the necessity for vigilance in safeguarding airspace integrity.
