MP: Woman beaten to death by tantric in attempted ‘fertility ritual’

Jhabua: A 34-year-old woman in Madhya Pradesh’s Jhabua district lost her life after enduring beatings by a tantric using an iron chain as part of a ritual, as reported by IANS.

The woman, identified as Manjita, residing in Naganwat village, faced infertility issues during her 15-year marriage, prompting her family to seek the assistance of a tantrik for a supposed “remedy.”

Engaged in a process known as tantra kriya, the woman was subjected to three consecutive days of beatings, resulting in her tragic death on Wednesday. Law enforcement has initiated an investigation, registering a case in connection with the incident.

Married to Prakash Damor 15 years ago, Manjita had been unable to conceive. In response, her in-laws and parents took her to a local tantric who continued to beat her, alleging possession by an evil spirit. The woman lost consciousness on the third day.

Upon bringing her to the hospital, she was pronounced dead. The post-mortem examination on Thursday revealed visible signs of beating on the body, although the exact cause of death remains unclear, as stated by the examining doctors.

Jhabua SP Agam Jain confirmed the registration of a case, indicating that further action would be based on the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
