Pediatrician head orders probe

Srinagar: A family from Central Kashmir’s Budgam district staged a protest at GB Pant Hospital Srinagar after the death of a five-year-old kid on Monday.

The family alleged medical negligence claiming that ‘inexperienced’ doctors who are at the helm of affairs in this vital neonate hospital are ‘incompetent’ and those who call the shots are devoid of any ‘empathy and mercy.’

The 5-year-old Ehsan Mohuiddin Thakar, son of Ghulam Mohiuddin, a resident of Kutbal, Pahadpora Chadoora died thid morning.

“They (doctors) murdered my son. They didn’t examine him properly. Our son died due to sheer negligence of the doctors,” the parents said.

The victim was being treated for acute pneumonia in the hospital for nearly a month.

The protesting family alleged that all the affairs in the hospital are managed by para-medical staff while there is an acute shortage of senior doctors.

When contacted, head of the Pediatrician department, Dr Muzaffar told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that a team will be constituted to know the facts.

“Yes, we will probe the death of the child. An inquiry will be ordered,” he said adding that the kid was admitted to the hospital for a month and every doctor examined him.

“The child was suffering from acute pneumonia and had surgery at another hospital,” he said.
