Adv Ghulam Nabi Khan is new president of Handwara Bar Association

Bar Association Handwara elects new leadership.

Handwara: The Bar Association Handwara has elected a new leadership with the election of Advocate Ghulam Nabi Khan as President and Advocate Rafi Afzal as Vice President for the forthcoming one-year term.

In a keenly contested election, Advocate Ghulam Nabi Khan secured a noteworthy 47 votes out of 85, demonstrating a resounding mandate from the esteemed members of the Bar Association.

His opponent, Advocate Nadeem Majeed Dar, received 38 votes, underscoring the confidence reposed in Advocate Khan’s vision and leadership.

Similarly, for the pivotal position of Vice President, Advocate Rafi Afzal emerged triumphant with a decisive mandate, garnering 43 votes, while his contender, Advocate Mir Imran, trailed behind with 42 votes.

Expressing his commitment to the welfare of the legal fraternity, President-elect Advocate Ghulam Nabi Khan asserted, “I am steadfast in my resolve to address the pressing issues faced by our esteemed colleagues, particularly our junior lawyers. The challenges pertaining to the availability of chambers, parking facilities, sanitation, and internal infrastructure at the Additional Sessions Court Handwara will be earnestly pursued with the relevant authorities. Furthermore, our administration will actively foster professionalism through the organisation of comprehensive workshops. I assure all members of the Bar Association Handwara that this marks the dawn of a transformative era under our new leadership.”

The election, supervised by Advocates Reyaz Ahmad Sheikh, Javaid Ahmad Khan, and Bilal Ahmad Dar, witnessed robust participation, with two contenders vying for the prestigious position of President.

In a parallel election for the post of Joint Secretary, Owais Majeed Malik emerged victorious with a commanding mandate of 55 votes, overshadowing his opponent, Advocate Shakoor Ahmad Bhat, who secured 30 votes.

Additionally, Advocate Sajad Ahmed Hajam was elected unopposed as the General Secretary. Likewise, for the role of Treasurer, Advocate Abdul Wahid Mir clinched a landslide victory, securing an impressive 58 votes, while Advocate Bilal Ahmad Malik garnered 27 votes.

Senior Advocates Abdul Rashid Lone, Assadullah Dar, and Mohammad Abdullah Mir conveyed their heartfelt appreciation to all members of the Bar Association Handwara for their active participation in the electoral process.

President-elect Advocate Ghulam Nabi Khan extended his gratitude to Election Commissioner Advocate Reyaz Ahmad Sheikh and his esteemed team for ensuring the conduct of fair, seamless, and transparent elections.
