Kashmiri students forced to shave beards in TN medical college, says student body

Tamil Nadu: The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association has claimed that over 20 students from Kashmir were being compelled to shave their beards to enter premises of a medical college in Tamil Nadu’s Chengalpattu.

The college of Nursing, Chengalpattu Govt Medical College & Hospital in Chengalpattu, Tamil Nadu, has asked the students to follow the  demand – compulsory shaving of their beards before being permitted entry to the college premises, the association head Nasir Khuehami told Free Press Kashmir.

This incident has triggered concern and raised questions about the protection of fundamental rights.

The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association has reached out to the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M K Stalin. In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister, the association has urgently called for intervention to rectify the matter and safeguard the fundamental rights of the affected students.

The association said, “It is essential that students from all backgrounds feel welcome and valued in our educational institutions, and that their rights and freedoms are safeguarded at all times. We urge you to prioritize the protection of fundamental rights and take swift and decisive action to address this matter. Your intervention is crucial in upholding the principles of justice, equality, and inclusivity in our society.”
