Arrest of Kejriwal to divert attention from electoral bonds scam, says Kerala CM

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

Kannur: During a rally against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan accused the BJP government of orchestrating the arrest of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal to divert attention from the alleged electoral bonds scam.

Vijayan criticised the BJP-led government of India and the Sangh Parivar for undermining the country’s rule of law and attempting to control constitutional institutions, including the judiciary, PTI reported.

Vijayan asserted that the Supreme Court’s order on the electoral bond scam threatened the ruling parties and prompted Kejriwal’s arrest as a distraction tactic. He emphasised the CPI(M)’s opposition to electoral bonds, which they deemed a tool for corruption, and highlighted the lack of accountability exhibited by the BJP.

Regarding the anti-CAA protests, Vijayan condemned GoI Minister Anurag Thakur’s inflammatory slogans and criticised the Congress for its response to the Act. He accused the Sangh Parivar of instigating violence against anti-CAA protesters in Delhi, resulting in casualties and extensive property damage.

Vijayan characterised the CAA as an RSS agenda being executed by the BJP government, prompting the Left party to organise massive anti-CAA rallies across Kerala.

The CAA, passed in December 2019, aims to expedite citizenship for undocumented non-Muslim migrants from neighbouring countries. However, it has sparked nationwide protests, with many opposition parties condemning it as discriminatory.
