Woman assaulted, paraded semi-naked by son’s in-laws in Punjab

Punjab: A 55-year-old woman was reportedly assaulted and paraded semi-naked in Valtoha village, Punjab, allegedly by her son’s in-laws after he married against the wishes of the bride’s parents, as per police statement on Saturday.

According to police reports, a video of the incident surfaced on social media on Friday, following an event that took place on March 31, just a few days after the victim’s son eloped and married a woman against her family’s wishes.

The victim, in her complaint, stated that she was alone at home when her son’s in-laws attacked her, tore her clothes, and paraded her semi-naked in the village.

Five individuals have been booked in relation to the case, with three of them identified as Kulwinder Kaur Mani, Sharanjit Singh Shanni, and Gurcharan Singh, as confirmed by the police.

An FIR (First Information Report) was registered on April 3 under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including assault with intent to outrage modesty, use of criminal force to disrobe, stalking, voluntarily causing hurt, and unlawful assembly.

As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the case, according to the police statement.
