Chinese President Xi Jinping, at the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum in Beijing, asserted that the Gaza war “should not continue indefinitely” and reiterated China’s support for an independent Palestinian state based on 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He emphasised China’s backing for Palestine’s full UN membership and called for an effective international peace conference. Xi also pledged ongoing humanitarian aid and support for Gaza’s reconstruction, highlighting China’s commitment to the UNRWA.

Xi expressed China’s willingness to strengthen relations with Arab states, aiming to model world peace and stability. He proposed expanded investment and financial cooperation, inviting Arab political leaders to China and encouraging tourism and cultural exchanges.

China remains the largest trade partner of the Arab region, with an annual turnover of around $400 billion. Xi announced plans to establish the China-Arab Center of Global Civilization Initiative and deepen financial ties, including supporting Arab banks in joining China’s Cross-border Interbank Payment System.

The forum marks its 20th anniversary this year, with China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Mauritanian counterpart Mohamed Salem Ould Merzouk co-chairing the event, alongside Arab foreign ministers and the Arab League’s secretary-general.
