Landslide blocks Kishtwar-Paddar road amid rains in Jammu

Jammu: A major landslide blocked the Kishtwar-Paddar road following light to moderate rains in isolated areas of Jammu division.

The landslide, triggered by rain, occurred near Patharnaki in Kishtwar district, halting vehicular traffic. Machinery was deployed to clear the road promptly, PTI reported quoting officials.

The weather in most of the Jammu region remained overcast with light to moderate rains in various areas, particularly in the hilly districts of Kishtwar, Doda, Rajouri, Poonch, Udhampur, and Ramban. Jammu city experienced light rainfall early on Sunday, with additional showers in some areas later in the evening.

Jammu recorded temperatures ranging from a high of 36 degrees Celsius to a low of 26.3 degrees Celsius, which is typical for this time of year, according to a meteorological department spokesperson.

Katra, the base camp for pilgrims visiting Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Reasi district, recorded a high of 32.9 degrees Celsius and a low of 24.6 degrees.

The spokesperson forecasted light to moderate rain or thundershowers in many parts of Jammu division from late night to early morning until July 3, followed by intermittent light to moderate rainfall and heavy showers in some areas from July 4 to 7.

The weather department also issued advisories for flash floods, landslides, shooting stones in vulnerable locations, and moderate thunderstorms or lightning in the coming week.
