New Delhi: Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh criticized Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi for his trip to Moscow, noting that Modi has not visited the violence-hit Manipur even for a few hours, while Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, is making his third visit to the northeastern state in over a year.
Rahul Gandhi arrived in Silchar, Assam, earlier today. He is set to visit a relief camp at Fulertal before heading to Manipur to visit relief camps at three different locations. He is also scheduled to meet the Governor of Manipur this evening.
Jairam Ramesh remarked that while the “non-biological” Prime Minister visits Moscow, Rahul Gandhi is heading to Assam and Manipur. He mocked claims that Modi had halted the Russia-Ukraine war temporarily.
Ramesh criticised Modi for not visiting Manipur even after 14 months of violence, stating that Modi hasn’t made time or shown interest in visiting the state since the crisis began on May 3, 2023. Modi has not met the state’s Chief Minister or other political leaders, including MLAs and MPs.
Modi embarked on a two-day visit to Moscow earlier today at the invitation of the Russian President for the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit.
