NEET-UG: SC to hear series of petitions on irregularities tomorrow
New Delhi: The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear a series of petitions on Thursday alleging irregularities in the conduct of the NEET-UG 2024 examination and seeking its cancellation.
According to the cause list published on the apex court’s website, a bench headed by CJI D.Y. Chandrachud will resume hearing the case on July 18.
During the previous hearing, the bench, which also included Justices J.B. Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, decided to adjourn proceedings at the joint request of the parties. This came after the CBI submitted a status report on allegations of paper leaks.
In its affidavit, the Centre informed the court that data analysis conducted by IIT-Madras indicated no widespread malpractice or localized benefit to specific candidates, despite an overall increase in marks, particularly in the 550 to 720 range. The Centre attributed this rise to a 25% reduction in the syllabus and noted that candidates achieving high scores were spread across various cities and centers, suggesting minimal likelihood of malpractice.
Previously, the Supreme Court had instructed the NTA to fully disclose details about the paper leak, including locations and timing, and directed the CBI to submit a status report detailing the investigation’s progress and evidence gathered.
