Wayanad: Rescue operations in Wayanad have entered their fifth day, with the death toll from Kerala’s devastating landslides and floods now at 344. Additionally, 206 people remain missing.
A rescue team of over 1,500 members, including personnel from the Defence forces, NDRF, SDRF, police, fire service, and volunteers, began searches early Saturday in the worst-affected areas: Churalmala, Velarimala, Mundakayil, and Punchirimadom.
To date, 146 bodies have been identified, while the identities of 74 remain unknown. Among the deceased are 30 children. Numerous dismembered body parts have also been recovered from the debris.
Around 9,500 people have been relocated to approximately 100 relief camps, and 84 individuals are currently hospitalised in the district.
Actor Mohanlal, a Lt. Colonel in the 122 Territorial Army attached to the Kannur unit, arrived in the affected areas on Saturday morning.
Dressed in military attire, he first visited the base camp in Meppadi, met with Defence forces, and then proceeded to Churalmala to interact with the rescue team.
