Srinagar: Sayar Ahmad Reshi, an independent candidate affiliated with Jamaat-e-Islami in the Kulgam assembly, recently said that a potential defeat in the upcoming election would not just be his loss but a setback for Islam itself, as reported by Kashmir Dot Com.

During a campaign rally on Thursday, Reshi said, “If, unfortunately, I do not succeed tomorrow, it won’t be seen as Sayar Ahmad’s defeat alone, but as a defeat for Islam.”

He stressed upon the religious implications, stating, “It will be perceived as a loss for the followers of Islam, those who call for prayer.”

Reshi’s statements highlight the profound significance he attaches to his electoral bid, linking his political prospects directly to the broader Islamic community.
