Militant associate held with explosives in Poonch, says police

Jammu: A militant associate belonging to militant outfit Jammu and Kashmir Ghaznavi Force along with explosives was arrested by security forces at Potha bypass area of Poonch district.

In a statement, the police said that on Thursday evening a joint naka of police, Army and CRPF was laid at potha bypass.

During search the security personnel noticed a person coming from Surankot towards Potha in a suspicious manner.

The police spokesman further stated that on seeing the armed forces the suspect tried to escape however the alert forces apprehended him.

During the search, a blue bag containing three hand grenades, explosive substance and other incriminating material were recovered from his possession, he said.

Preliminary investigation established his identity as Mohd Shabir, son of Mohd Farooq, a resdient of Daryala Nowshera who is in touch with a Pakistan administered Kashmir handler namely Azim Khan @ Mudeer who directed him to collect this consignment from surankot town, he said.

Police has taken cognisance and more arrests are expected, reads the statement.(GNS)
