At least 16 people were killed and dozens more wounded in new Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon on Wednesday, according to Lebanese authorities and international media reports.

The Health Ministry reported that four people were killed and 38 injured in the Baalbek-Hermel region in eastern Lebanon due to the strikes, as reported by Anadolu Agency.

An additional five people lost their lives, and 27 were wounded in Israeli airstrikes on the southern towns of Tebnine and Bint Jbeil, as per the ministry’s statement.

In the southern town of Joun, Israeli warplanes killed four people and injured several others, according to the state-run National News Agency. Another strike on the northeastern town of Maaysrah in Keserwan resulted in three fatalities and nine injuries, as reported by local media.

This marked the first instance of Israeli airstrikes in Keserwan since cross-border clashes with Hezbollah erupted on October 8 last year. The region is predominantly inhabited by Shias, according to an Anadolu report.

The Israeli military claimed it had targeted over 100 Hezbollah-related sites in Lebanon since Wednesday morning.

Israel’s airstrikes, which began Monday, have resulted in nearly 570 deaths and over 1,800 injuries, according to Lebanese health officials.

Hezbollah and Israel have been engaged in cross-border hostilities since the Israeli war on Gaza began, which has resulted in more than 41,400 deaths, mostly women and children.
