US intel warns Trump of assassination threat from Iran
US intelligence has informed former President Donald Trump of a “real and specific” assassination threat allegedly from Iran, aimed at creating chaos in the country, PTI reported.
Two assassination attempts have reportedly been made against the 78-year-old Republican candidate in the last two months.
“President Trump was briefed today by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence about credible threats from Iran to target him in an effort to destabilise the US,” said Steven Cheung, Trump’s campaign communications director, late Tuesday.
Cheung added that intelligence officials have observed an increase in these “coordinated” threats in recent months, with law enforcement agencies working to protect Trump and ensure the upcoming election remains secure.
The first attempt on Trump’s life occurred on July 13 during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, when a bullet grazed his ear. The second took place on September 15 at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida. Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, was charged Tuesday for the second incident, after being found armed outside the golf course.
“The Iranian regime fears Trump’s strength and is emboldened by Kamala Harris’s perceived weakness. Trump remains undeterred in his mission to Make America Great Again,” Cheung said.
The US presidential election, where Trump will challenge Democratic candidate Vice President Kamala Harris, is set for November 5.
