Navratri: Teen electrocuted, 7 injured in stampede at Delhi’s Kalkaji temple
New Delhi: Ten months after a makeshift platform collapse at the Kalkaji temple in southeast Delhi claimed a woman’s life and injured 17 others, another tragedy struck the temple on Thursday.
A 17-year-old boy, Mayank, was electrocuted, and at least seven people were injured in the ensuing stampede during Navratri celebrations.
Mayank, a Class 9 student from Ghaziabad, was visiting the temple with his family.
DCP (Southeast) Rajesh Deo said an initial investigation revealed that a broken electric wire used for halogen lights during Navratri came into contact with an iron railing.
“Seven people were injured, with four admitted to AIIMS and three to Safdarjung Hospital,” DCP Deo was quoted as saying.
On January 28, a raised platform had collapsed during an event at the same temple, killing a 45-year-old woman and injuring 17.
In February, the Delhi High Court directed that no ‘jagran’ or similar events should be held at the temple without its approval.
