Three-tier security set for vote counting in JK on Oct 8: Chief electoral officer
A three-tier security system will be established at counting centers throughout Jammu and Kashmir to ensure hassle-free vote counting. Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) PK Pole stated that all necessary preparations for the counting scheduled on October 8 have been completed.
“This strong security framework will ensure smooth operations and public safety during the process,” CEO Pole said. This election is particularly significant as it is the first since the abrogation of Article 370 and the first Assembly election in over a decade. Voting occurred in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1, with a recorded voter turnout of 63.88 percent—64.68 percent male and 63.04 percent female.
As counting day approaches, officials are ensuring an efficient and secure process. They outlined the planning that has gone into setting up counting centers in various constituencies. “Counting halls have been prepared for each constituency, with adequate tables for the round-wise counting of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) to ensure a seamless flow,” they said.
The randomisation of counting staff is nearly complete, an essential step for fairness in the vote count. “This process is vital for maintaining impartiality, and we are almost done with it. Our teams are fully prepared,” they added.
To facilitate a smooth counting day experience, essential infrastructure and safety measures are being implemented. “Facilities such as washrooms and drinking water will be accessible to all participants. Additionally, fire safety precautions have been taken, and medical personnel will be on standby for emergencies,” officials noted.
The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly election, the first since the region’s reorganisation, has attracted significant national attention. The counting will be conducted under strict oversight from the Election Commission as the Union Territory awaits the outcome.
