Omar to take oath as CM today; Rahul, others to attend ceremony
Srinagar: Omar Abdullah will take oath as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir today, marking a major political development in the Union Territory.
Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and a senior Congress leader and Priyanka Gandhi are set to attend the swearing-in ceremony in Srinagar.
According to an official communique from the Congress, Gandhi will be present at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) for the ceremony. Several leaders from the INDIA bloc, including Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, have already arrived in the city for the event.
The oath-taking ceremony is scheduled for 11:30 am, where Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha will administer the oath of office and secrecy to Omar Abdullah and his eight-member cabinet.
Those who would be sworn in as the ministers include Sakina Itoo, the woman face of NC, Justice (Rtd) Hasnain Masoodi, Abdur Rahim Rather, Ali Muhammad Sagar while as Jammu region will also be given representation in the form of Javaid Rana, Surinder Chouhdary and Satish Sharma.
Omar had staked claim on government formation after presenting the letters of support to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday. He presented the letters of support from 42 MLAs of NC, four independents, six Congress legislators and one CPI(M).
On Sunday, President Droupadi Murmu issued a notification revoking the president’s rule in J&K and paving way for the elected government to take the reins of J&K. On Monday, LG Sinha invited Omar for government formation on October 16. LG conveyed his decision by sending his Principal Secretary to Omar’s Gupkar residence.
Meanwhile, after the culmination of the swearing-in ceremony, the chief minister will be chairing a meeting with top officials.
