Rajouri: A block medical officer in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district was suspended on Sunday after hospital staff was found absent, an official spokesman said.

Rajouri Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Sharma ordered the suspension following a surprise inspection of the Sub-Division Hospital in Darhal, where it was found that the entire hospital staff, except for one doctor and a technician, was absent. This raised concerns about healthcare availability as winter approaches, the spokesman noted.

In response, the deputy commissioner ordered the BMO Darhal’s suspension, attaching him to the chief medical officer (CMO) Rajouri’s office. To maintain healthcare services in the area, the CMO has been given additional charge of BMO Darhal until further notice.

Additionally, Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Raj Kumar Thapa has been appointed as the inquiry officer to investigate the incident. Thapa has been tasked with conducting a thorough inquiry and submitting his report within three days, the spokesman added.

The deputy commissioner emphasised the administration’s commitment to reliable service delivery, especially in the winter season, warning that any negligence affecting public welfare would be met with strict action.
