WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook down globally; Meta issues apology

Meta, owned by Mark Zuckerberg, issued a formal apology on X following a massive global outage affecting its major platforms, including WhatsApp, Instagram, Threads, and Facebook. The outage also impacted users in India.

The company attributed the disruption to a technical issue and assured users that its team is actively working to restore services. Meta expressed regret for the inconvenience caused, stating, “We’re aware that a technical issue is impacting some users’ ability to access our apps. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and apologise for any inconvenience.”

According to Downdetector, an outage tracking platform, 68% of users reported issues with the app, 21% faced login problems, and 11% struggled to access Instagram’s website. For WhatsApp, 89% of users reported trouble sending messages, 9% faced app-related issues, and 2% encountered voice call disruptions. On Facebook, 50% reported app issues, 34% faced login problems, and others reported difficulties with additional features.

WhatsApp also posted on X, “We’re aware of some issues accessing WhatsApp. We’re actively working on a solution and starting to see a return to normal for most people. We expect things to be back to normal shortly.”
