‘Hanged self to death’: Dalit boy invited to birthday party, stripped, beaten and urinated upon in UP

Family says authorities delayed filing a formal complaint for three days; continued harassment pushed victim to take his own life

Basti: A minor boy, Aditya, died by suicide in a village in Uttar Pradesh, allegedly after enduring severe caste-based harassment. The victim’s family alleged that the boy was invited to a birthday party where he was brutally assaulted, stripped and urinated upon by four people who even filmed the heinous act.

Following the incident, the police registered a case under relevant sections. Circle Officer Pradeep Kumar Tripathi stated, “A boy named Aditya hanged himself, and a case has been registered in PS Kaptanganj. The reason appears to be mutual differences.”

However, Aditya’s family claims he faced extreme harassment before his death. According to his uncle, Vijay Kumar, Aditya was invited to a birthday party in the village, where he was assaulted.

“He was stripped, beaten, and urinated on during the party. When we tried to file a complaint, the police initially refused to register it,” Vijay alleged.

The family further claimed that the incident took place on December 20 but came to light a day later when Aditya shared his ordeal. Despite their efforts, the authorities allegedly delayed filing a formal complaint for three days. Vijay believes this continued harassment pushed Aditya to take his own life.

The police have launched an investigation, and further details are awaited.
