#BREAKING: Hamas accepts draft agreement for ceasefire in Gaza, release of hostages

Hamas has agreed to a draft ceasefire proposal for the Gaza Strip and the release of dozens of hostages, according to Associated Press, which quoted two officials involved in the negotiations on Tuesday.

Mediator Qatar stated the talks are at their “closest point” to finalizing an agreement.

The Associated Press obtained a copy of the proposed deal, confirmed as authentic by both an Egyptian official and a Hamas representative. An Israeli official noted significant progress, though details are still being finalized. The agreement will require approval from the Israeli Cabinet.

All three officials spoke anonymously due to the confidential nature of the discussions.

The United States, Egypt, and Qatar have spent the past year mediating to end the 15-month conflict and secure the release of hostages taken during Hamas’ October 7, 2023, attack.
