Modi and Kejriwal are like brothers, two sides of the same coin: Owaisi

New Delhi: AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi on Thursday drew parallels between AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, claiming both share ideological roots.

“Modi and Kejriwal are like brothers, two sides of the same coin. Both have emerged from the RSS ideology—one from its ‘shakha,’ the other from its institutions,” Owaisi remarked while campaigning for Shifa-ur-Rehman, AIMIM’s candidate in Okhla for the February 5 Delhi polls.

Owaisi conducted a walk in Shaheen Bagh, urging voters to support the party’s symbol, the “kite.” The AIMIM has fielded two candidates in the elections: Tahir Hussain from Mustafabad and Shifa-ur-Rehman from Okhla. Both candidates are currently in jail for their alleged involvement in the 2020 Delhi riots. Hussain, a former AAP councillor, joined AIMIM in December.

During his campaign, Owaisi questioned the judiciary’s fairness, alleging bias. “Why did Arvind Kejriwal secure bail in the liquor policy case, while Tahir Hussain and Shifa-ur-Rehman have remained imprisoned for five years? Even his party leaders like Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh are free, yet these two are still behind bars. What is their crime?” he asked.

Owaisi also criticised Kejriwal for neglecting the Okhla constituency. “While other constituencies see development, Okhla has become a garbage dump under the AAP government. People here shower me with flowers, but if Kejriwal were to visit, they’d throw slippers at him,” he claimed.

Confident about his party’s prospects, Owaisi asserted that the BJP has no chance of winning in Okhla. “The BJP has never won here, and it won’t win this time either,” he stated. The poll results will be announced on February 8.
