PDP member’s hotel demolished in Sonamarg; party alleges selective targeting by Omar-led JK Govt

Sonamarg Development Authority demolished the hotel of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member Bashir Ahmad Mir.

Sonamarg: A day after the Sonamarg Development Authority demolished the hotel of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member Bashir Ahmad Mir, the party alleged that the demolition was carried out despite proper construction permissions. They accused the Omar Abdullah-led government of selective targeting and misuse of administrative power.

PDP president and former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti and MLA Waheed Para criticised the action as unjust and politically motivated. They argue that despite having all necessary permissions, Mir’s property was demolished under the guise of administrative actions, likening it to the contentious “bulldozer model” employed by other governments.

Mehbooba Mufti, the PDP chief, said that this demolition is part of a broader pattern of silencing dissent and opposition voices, echoing sentiments that date back to earlier political actions against the party. Waheed Para alleged that the demolition was carried out despite proper documentation and accused the local authorities of targeting Mir due to his political affiliations and his previous electoral challenge against the ruling party.

On the other hand, officials from the Sonamarg development authority maintained that the demolition followed due procedures, though they refrained from specifying the exact reasons behind the action.
