Let it be clear: Muslims are not afraid of anyone, says Ruhullah
New Delhi: National Conference MP Aga Ruhullah on Monday accused the BJP-led government of misleading the country about the situation in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370.
Speaking in Parliament during the debate on the President’s address, Ruhullah dismissed claims that the region had benefited from the move, arguing that elections were always held even when Article 370 was in force.
“It is strange how people across the nation are being fooled. Article 370 was removed through an illegitimate process, and while people have participated in elections, what has actually changed for the better?” he questioned.
He backed his argument with data, stating that Jammu and Kashmir ranked sixth in the Human Development Index (HDI) before the abrogation, ahead of several BJP-ruled states. He pointed out that the region had a higher life expectancy and gross enrollment ratio in higher education than Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar.
Ruhullah also criticised the Leader of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, for not addressing the plight of Muslims in his speech.
“He spoke about his AI vision, OBCs, and backward classes but forgot Muslims. Are Muslims only meant to be frightened by the BJP for votes? Let it be clear: Muslims are not afraid of anyone.”
Asserting that mere statehood restoration was insufficient, he called for Jammu and Kashmir’s pre-1953 status to be reinstated, stating that only then would true justice be served.
