Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir’s toll tax revenue has witnessed an increase over the past five years, rising from Rs 130.07 crore in 2019-20 to Rs 436.86 crore in 2023-24, according to data presented in the Lok Sabha on Thursday.

However, despite this growth, JK remains among the states with the lowest toll collection in the country.

Compared to states like Uttar Pradesh (Rs 6,695.40 crore in 2023-24) and Rajasthan (Rs 5,549.48 crore), JK’s revenue is relatively modest.

Even neighbouring Punjab, which recorded a dip in toll collection in 2020-21 (282.15 crore), saw a sharp rise to Rs 1,491.94 crore in 2023-24—more than three times that of JK.

The data also reveals a steady year-on-year increase in toll collection in JK. In 2020-21, revenue dropped slightly to Rs 108.75 crore but rebounded to Rs 194.81 crore in 2021-22.

The following years saw even stronger growth, reaching 409.96 crore in 2022-23 before hitting Rs 436.86 crore in 2023-24. (KNO)
