Israel halts Gaza aid, demands Hamas accept ceasefire proposal

Israel halted all goods and supplies into Gaza on Sunday, warning of further action if Hamas rejects a new ceasefire proposal, Associated Press reported.

Hamas accused Israel of undermining the existing truce and called the aid cutoff “a war crime.”

The initial phase of the ceasefire, which allowed increased humanitarian aid, expired Saturday. The next phase was to include hostage releases by Hamas in exchange for an Israeli pullout and a lasting ceasefire.

Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel could resume fighting if negotiations stalled, insisting that hostages must continue to be released.

Israel claims the new proposal, backed by the US, would extend the ceasefire through Ramadan and Passover. Hamas, however, demands a permanent ceasefire and Israeli withdrawal before further hostage releases.

Egyptian officials said Hamas and Cairo would not accept any plan that does not end the war. Mediators are working to resolve the standoff.
