Srinagar: Zee News and its anchor Malhotra Malika have come under backlash for spreading misinformation about a Kashmiri Muslim man seen offering Zuhur prayers atop a vehicle. The channel falsely claimed that he had halted his truck in the middle of the road, causing a traffic jam on the Srinagar-Jammu highway
However, the actual cause of the traffic disruption was a landslide between Ramban and Banihal, leading to a genuine blockage. The video, which went viral, was manipulated by Zee News to falsely blame the driver for obstructing traffic due to prayers.
As the real and the one shared by the TV channel videos circulate on social media, users have demanded strict action against Zee News and Malhotra Malika, calling for an FIR against them for fuelling communal hatred through fake narratives.
