Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser, Muhammad Yunus, left for China on Wednesday for a four-day visit.
During his trip, Yunus will hold bilateral talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping on March 28, according to Bangladesh’s Foreign Ministry officials. They also confirmed that both nations are expected to sign several agreements during the visit.
Earlier this month, Chinese Ambassador to Dhaka, Yao Wen, met Yunus and described the upcoming visit as the most significant in the 50-year relationship between the two “trustworthy” and close allies.
Professor Yunus is set to deliver a speech on Asia in a Changing World: Towards a Shared Future, alongside China’s Executive Vice Premier. He will also participate in the Boao Forum—often called the Davos of the East—where global leaders and CEOs convene annually to discuss pressing global issues.
Additionally, Peking University, one of the world’s leading academic institutions, will confer an honorary doctorate upon Yunus, and he is scheduled to deliver a speech at the university.
Meanwhile, Longi, the world’s largest solar panel manufacturer, has announced plans to establish an office and invest in solar panel production in Bangladesh.
According to Ambassador Yao Wen, several top Chinese solar manufacturers visited Bangladesh in December to explore investment opportunities. Their visit followed an invitation from Yunus, who urged Chinese firms to relocate manufacturing to Bangladesh as part of the Interim Government’s initiative to transform the country into an economic hub.
