Nagarkurnool: The search operation to locate six persons who remained untraced in the partially collapsed SLBC project tunnel for over a month was being carried out with daily targets, a senior official told PTI. A portion of the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) project tunnel collapsed on February 22.

Rescue teams recently retrieved the engine of a loco train from the debris inside the tunnel, according to an official statement. The search operation has been hindered by ‘water seepage and accumulated soil’, making the efforts increasingly challenging.

IAS officer Shivashankar Lotheti, appointed as the special officer to oversee the operation, lauded the rescue teams for their perseverance despite the difficult conditions.

The missing workers have been identified as Sri Niwas (Uttar Pradesh), Sunny Singh (Jammu and Kashmir), Sandeep Sahu, Jegta Xess, Santosh Sahu, and Anuj Sahu (all from Jharkhand). The recovered bodies belong to Gurpreet Singh (Punjab) and Manoj Kumar (Uttar Pradesh).

Authorities continue to intensify search efforts to locate the remaining six persons.
