Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra accused persons allegedly linked to the BJP of threatening shopkeepers at a fish market near a temple in South Delhi’s Chittaranjan Park.
She shared a video where a man claims the market’s proximity to the temple offends Sanatani sentiments and declares it should not exist there. He also says that killing of any kind is against Sanatan Dharma, The Indian Express reported.
In the video, a shopkeeper points out that the market was legally allotted by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), to which the man responds that the DDA has made mistakes and they will be held accountable too.
Moitra, posting on X, said, “Watch BJP-affiliated goons threaten fish-eating Bengalis in CR Park. Residents say this has never happened in 60 years.”
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva responded, saying that traders in CR Park have always respected temples, and fish markets are legally established and well-maintained. He accused those sharing the video of trying to incite disharmony and urged Delhi Police to act against the culprits.
Police, meanwhile, said they have not received a formal complaint but are looking into the matter.
