Hyderabad: Several students at a Telangana welfare girls’ hostel in Medak district fell ill on Sunday, March 14, after consuming idlis served for breakfast.

According to reports, around 30 students from the Hyderabad Institute of Excellence were rushed to a nearby hospital after they complained of symptoms including vomiting, stomach pain, and dizziness. The incident took place while the students were staying at the hostel during their SSC board examinations.

Out of the 97 students residing in the hostel, those who consumed the breakfast complained of severe discomfort, following which immediate medical assistance was provided. The affected students have since recovered and are reported to be in stable condition.

In response to the incident, the students alleged that the food served at the hostel is often of poor quality. They claimed that strands of hair and even worms were found in the meals, forcing them to seek food from outside sources. Moreover, they alleged that any complaints about the food were met with a penalty, with students being fined Rs 500 for raising concerns.

The management of the MS Creative School, under which the hostel is reportedly run, has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
