Pulwama: Days after the deadly Pahalgam attack, armed forces have intensified their crackdown in South Kashmir, with police on Friday launching extensive search operations at the residences of suspected overground workers (OGWs) in Shopian and Pulwama.

The raids are part of an ongoing effort to identify persons who may have offered logistical or other support to the militants responsible for the April 22 assault, which claimed 26 civilian lives, mostly tourists, reports said.

“We are thoroughly searching the houses of suspected OGWs as we look for any leads that could help us trace the attackers or their network,” police sources told news agency KNT.

The operations extended beyond Shopian, with similar searches carried out in Pulwama and Anantnag districts, as forces coordinate efforts to dismantle support systems linked to the assailants.

The Pahalgam attack has sparked widespread outrage and concern, prompting heightened surveillance and intelligence-gathering across the region.

The attack occurred on April 22, 2025, around 2:50pm in the Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination in Jammu and Kashmir.
