‘Take urgent measures’: Kashmiri Pandit body calls on GoI to ensure safety and dignity of Kashmiri students

The Kashmiri Pandit Sangharsh Samiti (KPSS) has called on the Government of India and the administrations of all states and union territories to take urgent measures to ensure the safety, dignity, and emotional well-being of Kashmiri students facing harassment following the Pahalgam killings.

KPSS emphasized that students who are pursuing education far from conflict zones should not be punished for incidents with which they have no involvement.

These students are not responsible for the political situation in the Kashmir Valley; they are simply striving to build better futures for themselves, the statement read.

Formal communications have been sent to Governors, Lieutenant Governors, Chief Ministers, and Chief Secretaries across India, urging swift action against targeted violence and harassment.

According to KPSS, educational institutions must remain places of learning, not battlegrounds for identity politics. Hostels should be safe spaces, not corridors filled with fear and prejudice.

“This is not just a law-and-order issue—it is a test of India’s national conscience. Justice must not be selective, and compassion must not be conditional,” the statement said.

Having themselves been victims of targeted violence, the Kashmiri Pandit community understands the pain of being persecuted for one’s identity. KPSS stressed that others must not be made to endure the suffering they have experienced.

The organisation has appealed to Kashmiri Pandits across the country to stand with the students, protect them, build bridges, and become the guiding light they once sought in their darkest times.
