Srinagar: The Cyber Cell of District Police Srinagar on Sunday issued a cyber security alert, warning the public about spoofed WhatsApp numbers and phone calls allegedly being used by enemy intelligence operatives to impersonate officials and extract sensitive information.

According to a statement posted on X by Srinagar Police, journalists, civilians, and public figures are being specifically targeted. The operatives are reportedly attempting to gather details related to ongoing situations in the region.

“All are strictly advised not to respond or share any information with unknown or suspicious callers,” the advisory stated, stressing that sharing operational or sensitive information with unauthorised individuals could lead to legal consequences.

Police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any such calls or suspicious messages immediately to their nearest police station or directly to the Cyber Cell.

The alert comes amid heightened tensions in the region, where misinformation and intelligence leaks could compromise public safety and operational security.
