New Delhi: The Youth Congress has filed a police complaint against BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya and Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami for allegedly spreading false information that the Indian National Congress operates an office in Turkey.

An FIR was lodged on Monday at Bengaluru’s High Grounds police station, based on a complaint by Shrikant Swaroop B N, the legal cell head of the Indian Youth Congress.

The two have been charged under Sections 192 (provoking with intent to cause riot) and 352 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

The complaint follows recent tensions between India and Turkey, triggered by Turkey’s backing of Pakistan in the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack and India’s subsequent military response under Operation Sindoor.

According to the FIR, Malviya and Goswami allegedly circulated misleading information, claiming the Istanbul Congress Centre was an official INC office. The Congress accused them of launching a “deliberate and malicious disinformation campaign” aimed at misleading the public, tarnishing the party’s image, and inciting unrest.

Swaroop said the campaign was a calculated attempt to stir nationalist sentiment and endanger national security. He urged authorities—including the Press Council of India, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and the CBI—to treat the case with urgency, dismantle the network of disinformation, and prosecute the accused to uphold public trust and democratic integrity.
