Gandhinagar: Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi on Tuesday urged traders to avoid selling foreign-made goods, taking a swipe at Chinese imports, including Ganesh idols.
“Unfortunately, even Ganesh idols come from abroad—small-eyed idols whose eyes don’t even open properly,” he remarked during a rally in Gandhinagar.
Modi stressed the need to boost indigenous products, stressing that the pressure to rise higher on the global economic ladder now outweighs the euphoria of India becoming the world’s fourth-largest economy.
He recalled the pride among Indian youth when the country surpassed its former colonial ruler, the UK, to become the fifth-largest economy.
