New Delhi: Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other party leaders staged a protest outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence in New Delhi on Tuesday, condemning what they described as the “use of excessive force” against students during protests a day earlier.
The Congress protest came after thousands of students and youth activists marched in central Delhi on Monday over alleged examination paper leaks and other grievances concerning the education system.
Police used tear gas, batons and barricades to prevent protesters from marching towards Parliament, leading to clashes at several locations.
Police said personnel were injured in alleged stone-pelting, while protesters also suffered injuries. Around 100 people were reportedly detained.
Rahul Gandhi said the Congress had marched to the Prime Minister’s residence to seek answers over what he termed “brutalities against young students”.
Reuters confirmed that Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and other Congress members joined the protest outside Modi’s residence on Tuesday.
The students’ agitation, organised under the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) banner, has raised issues including alleged examination irregularities and the alleged NEET-2026 paper leak.
Protest representatives have sought the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, among other demands. Union minister J P Nadda met CJP representatives on Monday in the government’s first outreach to the protesters, but no firm commitment was announced following the talks.
