Srinagar: The 14th edition of Alisha’s Library on Wheels was launched on Wednesday at Government Girls Higher Secondary School (GHSS), Rainawari, Srinagar. The mobile library project aims to make books and learning material accessible to students in underserved areas.
Co-founded by Alisha Madhuvarshi, a student in the US, and CISF officer Rakesh Nikhaj, the initiative provides reading resources to children with limited access to formal education or quality content.
At GHSS Rainawari, the team set up a collection focused on competitive exams including UPSC, SSC, Banking, CAPF, Police, State PCS, UGC NET/JRF, and Law entrance. The books are housed in an almirah with seating for six students.
“This isn’t just about books—it’s about giving people a chance to dream, learn, and grow,” said Alisha Madhuvarshi, addressing the girls virtually from the USA.
“We believe that books have the power to transform lives, and every child deserves the opportunity to turn the page to a better future,” she said.
SSP Central Jail Srinagar Sheikh Zulufikar Azad handed over the library key to Principal Gulshan Afroza. CISF Contingent Commander Rakesh Nikhaj also attended and outlined the aim of the initiative.
Career counselling expert and CEO of Reform and Rehabilitation Foundation, Sheikh Inayat Ullah, spoke to students about career planning, exam options, and the use of UNICEF-supported guidance tools.
Three Class 11 students received free online SSC courses worth Rs 21,000 each.
Principal Afroza thanked the team and assured full use of the material for student support.
Alisha announced plans to expand the project to 100 locations in the coming years.
