Iran plans retaliatory strikes on American bases in Middle East, reports NYT

Iran is reportedly planning retaliatory strikes on US military bases in Iraq following American airstrikes that allegedly crippled Tehran’s nuclear facilities, international media reported.

According to The New York Times, US military and intelligence agencies have picked up indications that Iran-aligned militias may target US bases in both Iraq and potentially Syria.

This development comes as the United States issued a global alert, warning its citizens that the ongoing Middle East tensions could pose elevated security risks for Americans abroad. Iran has threatened US installations across the region in response to what Washington claims were devastating strikes on Iran’s nuclear program.

While Iraqi authorities are actively trying to prevent any attacks, the NYT report—citing US officials—said that Iran-backed groups have so far refrained from action.

The specific militias involved were not identified. Over the years, Iran’s proxy network has been significantly weakened by Israeli and American operations.

Tehran’s Lebanese ally, which has faced substantial setbacks amid the three-year Israel-Hamas conflict, has indicated it will not take part in the current confrontation with Israel.
