Srinagar: Amid ongoing heatwave conditions, Srinagar experienced its second hottest day of the season on Friday, with the mercury soaring to 35.3°C. The scorching conditions come as a severe heatwave grips many parts of the Kashmir Valley.
According to data compiled by Kashmir Weather Forecast, Kupwara topped the Valley’s temperature chart at 35.4°C, followed by Qazigund at 34.4°C, Kokarnag at 33.4°C, and Pahalgam at 30.2°C. Even the usually cool hill station of Gulmarg touched 26.0°C.
In the Jammu division, Katra recorded 32.0°C, Banihal 29.8°C, and Batote 27.0°C.
The rising mercury has taken both residents and tourists by surprise, with many describing the weather as “unbearable” for the Valley, which is usually associated with milder summers.
Weather experts have attributed the anomaly to prolonged dry conditions and weak western disturbances. No significant relief is expected over the next few days.
