LG Sinha issues directives a day after 36 Amarnath pilgrims injured in 5-car pile-up on Jammu-Srinagar highway

Five vehicles were damaged in the accident and 36 yatris were injured.

Srinagar: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has directed officials to implement comprehensive safety measures for vehicles ferrying pilgrims on the Amarnath Yatra route. He stressed the need for rigorous safety checks at key locations and ensured uninterrupted availability of food and medicines along the Yatra route.

Following the directions, senior officials were asked to remain on alert and ensure all necessary arrangements for the smooth and safe movement of pilgrims.

The directives came after a minor accident at Chanderkote, where a Pahalgam-bound vehicle suffered brake failure and collided with stationary vehicles. Thirty-six pilgrims sustained minor injuries. All were given preliminary treatment and discharged, and they have resumed their journey to the holy cave.

The Lieutenant Governor also spoke to Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar and Deputy Commissioner Ramban Mohammad Alyas Khan to ensure all required assistance was extended to the injured.

“By the blessings of Lord Shiva, all the devotees are safe. Our priority is the safety of all pilgrims,” the LG said, lauding the swift response of the district administration and health officials.
