Gaza genocide: 39 Palestinians killed in 24 hours, death toll crosses 61,000

The devastation caused by Israeli attacks in Gaza

At least 61,369 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip since October 2023, which the Health Ministry described as genocidal.

In a statement on Saturday, the ministry said 39 bodies had been recovered in the past 24 hours, while 491 others were injured, bringing the total number of wounded to 152,850 since the start of the offensive.

“Many victims remain trapped under rubble and in the streets, with rescuers unable to reach them,” the statement added.

It also reported that 21 people were killed and over 341 wounded in the past day while trying to access humanitarian aid. This has raised the total number of Palestinians killed in such incidents since May 27 to 1,743, with 12,590 others injured.

The ministry further noted that 11 people, including children, died in the past 24 hours from famine and malnutrition, bringing the total number of starvation-related deaths to 212, among them 98 children, amid a worsening humanitarian crisis.

According to the ministry, Israel resumed its military campaign on March 18, killing 9,862 people and injuring 40,809 since then, breaking a ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal that had been in place since January.

In November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant over alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel is also facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice over its ongoing assault on the enclave.
