Without these updates, children may face difficulties later in sitting for key exams such as NEET, JEE, and CUET
New Delhi: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has called on schools across India to actively facilitate the timely completion of Mandatory Biometric Updates (MBU) in Aadhaar for children, particularly at the key ages of five and fifteen.
In partnership with the Department of School Education and Literacy, UIDAI has linked students’ MBU status to the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) platform, giving schools direct access to information on which children still need to update their biometrics.
“Updating biometrics at ages five and fifteen is essential to maintaining the accuracy and reliability of Aadhaar data,” the authority said, noting that nearly 17 crore Aadhaar numbers remain pending for updates.
UIDAI warned that delays often lead to last-minute rushes by anxious parents and students, which could be avoided with timely action. Without these updates, children may face difficulties later in accessing government schemes or sitting for key exams such as NEET, JEE, and CUET.
To address this, UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar has written to chief secretaries of all states and union territories, urging them to organize targeted MBU camps through schools. “A camp-based approach will help clear pending updates and ease pressure on students and parents,” he said.
The initiative builds on UIDAI’s recent measures, such as strengthening Aadhaar authentication for cooperative banks, as part of efforts to ensure smoother service delivery and wider inclusion.
