Envoys from US, China, Russia, Israel join RSS centenary event in Delhi

The three-day programme began on Tuesday at Vigyan Bhawan.

New Delhi: Over 50 diplomats from nearly two dozen embassies and high commissions attended the centenary celebrations of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in New Delhi.

Those present on the second day included US First Secretary Garry Applegarth, US Minister-Counsellor for Political Affairs Aaron Cope, China’s Minister-Counsellor Zhou Guohui, Russia’s First Secretary Mikhail Zaytsev, Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner Pradeep Mohsini, and Malaysia’s High Commissioner Dato Muzafar.

Also in attendance were Uzbekistan’s Counsellor Ulugbek Rizaev, Kazakhstan’s Counsellor Dimasg Syzdykov, and Israeli Ambassador Reuven Azarm.

The three-day programme, titled “100 Years Journey of RSS: New Horizons,” began Tuesday at Vigyan Bhawan. On the opening day, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat outlined his vision for India’s future and the role of volunteers in shaping it. He is scheduled to answer delegates’ questions on the final day.

The address was simultaneously translated into English, French, and Spanish for international participants.

As part of its centenary outreach, the RSS has planned several events across India, including over 100,000 Hindu sammelans. The celebrations will begin with Bhagwat’s annual Vijaya Dashami address at the organisation’s Nagpur headquarters on October 2. A nationwide door-to-door contact campaign is also planned during the year.
