Anantnag: Police in Anantnag have arrested a man for impersonating a senior police officer after recovering a fake uniform from his possession during a routine naka checking in Kokernag area, police said on Thursday.
According to the police, a naka party from Police Station Kokernag intercepted a suspicious person carrying a bag. The man, identified as Mohd Umer Mochi, son of Mohd Jamal Mochi, and a resident of Zalangam, tried to flee but was swiftly apprehended by alert personnel.
Upon searching his bag, police recovered a uniform bearing the rank insignia of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP). Preliminary investigation suggested that the accused had been using the uniform to impersonate a senior police officer with an intent to deceive the public.
A case under FIR No. 118/2025 has been registered at Police Station Kokernag, and further investigation is underway.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police have warned that strict action will be taken against anyone attempting to impersonate police or civil officers or misuse public trust. The public has been urged to remain alert and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station without delay.
