New Delhi: Hours after dismantling a militant network spread across Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, armed forces arrested a woman doctor from Lucknow following the recovery of an assault rifle from her car, officials said on Monday. The accused, identified as Dr Shaheen Shahid, has been flown to Srinagar for custodial interrogation.
According to reports quoting officials, Dr Shahid hails from Lal Bagh in Lucknow.
With her arrest, the number of people taken into custody in connection with the case has risen to eight.
The others have been identified as Arif Nisar Dar alias Sahil, Yasir-ul-Ashraf, and Maqsood Ahmad Dar alias Shahid, all residents of Nowgam, Srinagar; Molvi Irfan Ahmad, an imam from Shopian; Zameer Ahmad Ahanger alias Mutlasha from Wakura in Ganderbal; Dr. Muzammil Ahmad Ganaie alias Musaib from Koil in Pulwama; and Dr. Adeel from Wanpora in Kulgam.
Eatlier, police said that they have recovered over 2,900 kilograms of explosives along with arms and ammunition, revealing a sophisticated white-collar terror module linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGuH).
“The investigation has unearthed a white-collar terror ecosystem comprising radicalised professionals and students in touch with foreign handlers based in Pakistan and elsewhere,” the Jammu and Kashmir Police said in a statement.
“Funds were raised through professional and academic networks under the pretext of social or charitable initiatives. The accused were found to be identifying, indoctrinating, and recruiting individuals into terror ranks, besides raising funds and managing logistics, arms, and materials for IED preparation.”
The statement added that the accused were engaged in a wide spectrum of unlawful activities from radicalisation and recruitment to fund collection, logistics coordination, and weapons procurement.
