New Delhi: Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Tuesday expressed deep sorrow over the deadly car blast near Delhi’s Red Fort that claimed several lives and left many others injured.

“Deeply saddened by the tragic car blast in Delhi that has claimed precious lives and injured many. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for the swift recovery of those injured. May Almighty Allah grant strength and patience to all affected by this tragedy,” Mirwaiz said in a post on X.

A high-intensity explosion ripped through a car near the Red Fort metro station on Monday evening, killing at least 12 people.

Following the incident, Delhi Police registered an FIR under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Explosives Act. The capital has been placed on high alert, with enhanced security at airports, railway stations, and bus terminals.

Raids are ongoing across several locations in Delhi after preliminary investigations indicated links to a terror module recently busted in Faridabad.

Earlier that day, police had arrested eight people, including three doctors, and seized around 2,900 kg of explosive material. The haul included 360 kg of suspected ammonium nitrate, potassium nitrate, sulphur, and a cache of arms and ammunition.
